I've
always liked travelling and made my first trip abroad to Eindhoven
in the Netherlands when I was nine. Since then I've been to many of
Europe's capital cities, often on business.
Further afield,
I've been to San Francisco twice and also toured the USA in 1996 visiting many good people who I
met on-line in chat rooms while working on the microsoft network |

EuropeSo far,
I've managed to make it to:
- Austria: Wein (Vienna) by train for pleasure and plane on business; the trip up
the big wheel with a brass band is still a favourite memory. I've
also wandered up mountains near Innsbruck and love Salzburg.
- Belgium: I was introduced to Brussels by a local
restaurant owner who took me clubbing while I was actually over there for a business meeting which got cancelled and left me at a loose end for four days! I've also driven around and
about a number of times
- Denmark: Kobenhavn (Copenhagen) in 1980 (train / pleasure) and 1998 (plane / business)
- Estonia: Tallinn (the black passport stamps alongside)
for a quick trip to our subsidiary company in 1998.
- Finland: an overnight trip to Helsinki for a visit to our Tampere office introduced me to this northern delight
- France: Paris many times for business and pleasure. I also visited Lyon, Bordeaux, Lourdes and
elsewhere when I hitch-hiked around the country at age 18 and later by
train in 1979 and '80. More recently a number of times through the tunnel on the
Eurostar express (so much faster and easier than the plane too).
- Germany: I still remember my first visit to Köln
(Cologne) on a day trip at nine years old, then went again on a
school exchange trip to Bonn and have since been back many times by train,
plane and car around the country for business and pleasure. I also worked in Eastern Germany a year after the fall
of the wall and found it an amazing place - especially all the
Trabants!. In November 2000 my then partner and I spent a long weekend in Berlin for our sixth anniversary.
- Italy: Although I haven't been there for years, Rome,
Naples and the beautiful Venice have seen me in the past for holiday trips (and I
still own a pair of strappy sandals I bought there in 1980!)
- Luxembourg: A pleasant walk around the centre of the city
in December '97 has been my only visit so far
- Monaco: When doing the student 'interrail' bit in 1979 I spent
three days in this wonderful city state.
- Nederlands: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven... Its a small
country and I have travelled around much of it,the first time when I was only nine. Whilst at CHSE I visited our Helmond office regularly.
- Norway: Olso. The new airport is very nice (and eerily
quiet) but the 'express' transport link is so SLOW! Loved the city
though either way when I visited every two months to see one of our suppliers.
- Portugal: Lisboa four times on business, a week at a time, allowed me to get a flavour of this lovely city throughout the year
- Spain: Madrid and Barcelona
- Sweden: Stockholm. The drive from Arlanda airport has
some nice views across country, although not my favourite business daytrip from London!
- Switzerland: One of my favourite countries and visited
many times over the years, Geneva, Lausanne and Zürich are always
nice to walk around whether I have been there for business or
buying chocolate pleasure!
- Turkey: One visit to Istanbul (to visit our office for Turkey) has so far been enough. The taxi drivers, the man chasing me around the streets trying to kidnap me ...

The Americas |

 |
- United States of America: I've spent time in
San Francisco and the Bay area, Detroit (Dearborn), Seattle, New York, New Jersey, Miami,
Baltimore, Washington DC, and Gainesville (Florida), plus the
airports of Dallas Fort Worth, Cincinatti, Orlando and Salt Lake City.
